Last week we visited Bendigo, an old city in the heart of Victoria filled with art and culture. Apart from learning about the incredible history of this town, (during the gold boom in the 1850’s made it the richest city in the world!) we really wanted to see the retrospective of renowned Australian designer and lovely friend, Toni Maticevski at the famous Bendigo Art Gallery.

Toni has achieved international acclaim for his masterful approach to the manipulation of traditional fashion silhouettes and innovative use of materials and fabrics….he knows how to make an incredible dress! We explored his early influences and travelled through his career feeling every mood and inspiration in an incredibly impactful way. Stunning seeing his creations up close and getting a real sense of how each piece is wearable art – a MUST see.

Go for a day trip or a weekend road trip…the town is filled with history on every corner, lots of places to eat (a must is Masons of Bendigo) or just hang out. It really feels like a hub for creatives. We stayed at this amazing boutique hotel Schaller Studios which was perfect to finish off our day of inspiration.

We really loved getting out of Sydney for a few days to explore this region.
